Categories Measure chillum length
The frustration is great when the new chillum arrives and turns out to be unsuitable for the bong, because you have thrown something with the length averaging and / or the cut size. Read here how and where to measure the bong cut and shillum
correctly:
Measure the length of the chillum
Only one value counts for the correct cutting of a glass shillum! And this is not the total length or the length of the downpipe below the cut (the mostly milky and thick glass part of the chillum, where it later sits in the bong), but the length from the lower end of the chillum to the upper edge of the cut. The reason for this measurement is simply that only this length really says something. The total length is irrelevant here, because there are both complete inserts incl. head, and simple couplings for combination with separate heads. The total length varies dramatically. Only the length, which disappears after use in the bong, is really relevant.
How do I get the length out?
In ancient times - even before smartphones, PCs and suitable software were widely used - one simply held a pen into the bong, measured the length with a ruler and, depending on the size of the bong, deducted a few centimetres to give the chillum some ground clearance. In the 21st century, on the other hand, it's best to do the same, because a bong is and remains a fully analog smoking device.Determine the size of the cut
The size of the cut of the bong describes nothing else than the average thickness of the above mentioned insert in millimeters. The outside diameter of the chillum (or the inside diameter of the bong) usually corresponds to one of the following values :- 12.5 mm
- 14.5 mm
- 18.8 mm
- 29.2 mm
